ABOUT PARAFFIN WAX
What is Paraffin Wax?
Paraffin Wax is a refined petroleum-derived wax widely used as a raw material in candle manufacturing, packaging, coatings, rubber processing, board and paper applications, and other industrial processes.
The performance of Paraffin Wax depends on more than its melting point. Oil content, degree of refining, penetration, color, viscosity, and flash point all influence how the wax behaves during processing and in the final application. This is why selecting the right grade should start with the technical requirements of the end product.
Oil Content
Oil content is an important factor when selecting Paraffin Wax for different applications.
Level of Refining
Different levels of refining allow buyers to select a grade according to their application and required specifications.
Processing Performance
Melting point, penetration, color, viscosity, and flash point can influence processing and final-product performance.
PARAFFIN WAX GRADES
Fully Refined, Semi Refined & Industrial
Paraffin Wax is commonly differentiated by its oil content and level of refining. Lower oil content generally indicates a more highly refined wax, while higher oil content is associated with less refined grades.
KCS offers Paraffin Wax in different grades, including Fully Refined, Semi-Refined, and Industrial / Technical grades, allowing buyers to select a product according to their application and required specifications.
FULLY REFINED
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax has a low oil content and higher degree of refining. Its cleaner appearance, controlled penetration, and consistent properties make it suitable for applications where purity, color, and controlled performance are important.
SEMI REFINED
Semi-Refined Paraffin Wax
Semi-Refined Paraffin Wax contains a higher level of oil than fully refined grades. It provides a balance between performance and cost and is commonly selected for applications where extremely low oil content is not required.
INDUSTRIAL/TECHNICAL
Industrial / Technical Paraffin Wax
Industrial or Technical Paraffin Wax generally has a higher oil content and is selected for applications where specific physical properties and cost efficiency are more important than the higher purity associated with fully refined grades.
PARAFFIN WAX GRADES
Light vs. Heavy Paraffin Wax
Within the same oil-content category, Paraffin Wax may also be supplied as Light or Heavy grade. The distinction is related to the characteristics of the wax and its hydrocarbon composition, which can influence melting behavior, hardness, and processing performance.
Light Paraffin Wax is generally selected when a lighter wax characteristic and specific processing behavior are required, while Heavy Paraffin Wax is typically preferred when greater hardness, higher melting characteristics, or performance under warmer operating conditions is needed.
The appropriate choice between Light and Heavy should therefore be based on the manufacturing process, operating conditions, and required final-product properties rather than the grade name alone.
